The Regional Vice Chairperson of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) for Eastern Uganda, Captain Mike Mukula, has praised the NRM government for its significant contributions to the people of Uganda.
Capt. Mukula made the remarks during a telephone interview with Radio Wa on Tuesday 14th, May 2025.
He commended President Yoweri Museveni, who also chairs the NRM, for his exemplary leadership, saying it has enabled the people of Lango and the entire country to progress significantly.
Mukula, who is seeking re-election to the same position, also reflected on his past contributions through the NRM party. He cited his role during the LRA insurgency in Barlonyo, where he ensured that the victims of the massacre received a mass, dignified burial.
He further recalled that during his tenure as Member of Parliament for the then Soroti Municipality, he moved a motion in the 6th Parliament that addressed the threat of armed Karimojong warriors. The motion, which focused on two key components, contributed to the disarmament of the warriors who were terrorizing communities in Acholi, Lango, Teso, and Bugisu, ultimately restoring peace in Karamoja and surrounding regions.
In addition, Mukula highlighted his support for the UPDF in protecting internally displaced persons (IDPs) during the height of the insurgency. He noted that the NRM government has since improved regional trade by tarmacking the road from Tororo to Elegu via Lira.
He also credited his efforts in the establishment of the Amuka militia in Lango, which played a key role in securing peace during the LRA conflict in Northern Uganda, alongside the Arrow Boys in Eastern Uganda, an initiative he said marked a turning point in the fight against Joseph Kony’s rebels.
As a member of the NRM Central Executive Committee (CEC), Mukula said he was instrumental in mobilizing support during the 2021 presidential elections, organizing up to five campaign rallies per day, a push that helped secure President Museveni's lead in the polls.
He went on to thank the NRM government for introducing key socio-economic programs such as free universal education, the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the Youth Livelihood Programme, all of which he said have improved the economic wellbeing of Ugandans.
Captain Mike Mukula is a Ugandan businessman, politician, and professional pilot. He served as Member of Parliament for Soroti Municipality from 1996 to 2016.
