Police in Kole district are holding the Kole district store man and the Works Department office attendant in connection to the lost of 41 bags of rice currently being distributed as emergency food relief by Office of the Prime Minister.

The arrest of Peter Odyek and another staff only identified as Sarah was prompted after the Members of Parliament for Kole South Peter Ocen Akalo and that of Kole North Bonny Okello Konypaco ordered for an impromptu check following complaints raised by the locals about the missing bags of rice.

Upon checking into district office premises, 41 bags of rice were discovered hidden in the district toilet.

Meanwhile, the Police say they have recovered four more bags in Ayer Sub county after a tip off by the Sub county chief who said they signed for more bags.

However the Officer in charge Criminal Investigations Department at Kole CPS, Jimmy Mogi Agaba says on arresting the two staff, some technocrats at the district stormed the Central Police station bitterly accusing the police of overstepping their boundary of operation.

He said investigations are ongoing and are left with recording statements from those who offloaded the bags of rice from the truck.

Unconfirmed report has also indicated that a government vehicle registration number LG 0001 058 often used by the Deputy Chief Administrative officer, Charles Ouma was spotted transporting some bags of rice last Saturday to unknown place.

Efforts to get comments from the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer or the Chief Administrative Officer were not possible by the time of filing this report.
