UNRA Commends Lira Municipality Upon Eviction of Roadside Vendors & Kiosks

Lira district has received an applause from the executive director of Uganda National Road Authority over their persistence in evicting road side vendors from the road reserves.

According to the Director the move is to allow the Government prepare to implement a 10 year project of road construction that is supposed to run from Tororo through Lira to Kamdini.

During a press conference the UNRA Executive Director, Allen said that the 340km road construction project is being funded by the World bank despite the earlier reports that the institution had withdrawn from funding the projects being implemented by UNRA as a result of mismanagement of funds.

Kagina added that the body has devised strategies to ensure that the level of corruption is dealt with which will lead to effective implementation of the project noting that they are working closely with the World Bank to ensure that they don´t withdraw the funding.

Against this backdrop, Lira´s Resident District Commissioner Robert Abak, pledged continuous support towards the project and promised to always monitor the maintenance of the Roads that are being constructed by Uganda National Roads Authority.

The multimillion North Eastern Road Corridor construction project which will run from Tororo to Kamdini through Mbale and Soroti is aimed at deepening the integration of the East Africa through laying a foundation of trade and its completion will greatly impact on the development of the region.
