The fate of the seven suspects who were arrested on Friday and detained at Lira Central Police station over illegal possession of ivory weighing about 55kilogrammes is yet to be decided as they have not yet been produced before courts for prosecution.

The Lira district Police Commander, Joel Tubanone disclosed that his office is in touch with a team from the Police Standard Unit and Uganda Wild life authority to have the suspects transferred to Kampala where they shall be produced before Buganda Road Court.

He however said that out of the seven suspects, some of whom he declined to mention their names, are to be exonerated because they were not directly involved in the act.

Last week, police arrested Susan Aber, Solomon Okello, Jasper Oweka, Denis Omonya, Denis Epila, Fabio Ochen and Maxwell Wilbon Omara all residents of Alito Camp, Ojwina Division in Lira Municipality and charged with alleged illegal possession of wild life products under CBRL/1260/2017.
