28 Year Old Masquerading As NEMA Official Arrested

Police in Lira have arrested a 28 year old man for allegedly masquerading as an employee of NEMA attached to the office of the Resident District commissioner.

Ambrose Otyeny, is accused of fleecing about 1.2 million shilling from the public using his pseudo status. Otyeny a resident of Ayago Parish in Ngetta Sub County, Lira District was arrested after he tried to collect 347,000 shillings from Moses Odongo a 52 years old resident of Bur-lobo.

Angelo Opio the LCI of Oloro A Vilage where Otyeny was arrested notes that otyeny has been moving within his village conning money from the locals with claims that he works for NEMA and has been assigned to resolve issues concerning wetland encroachments in Lira.

It is alleged that the suspect now in custody usually asks for money threatening to drug those who resist to the office of the RDC.

Police Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong disclosed that Police has been receiving several complaints from residents of Ayago Village and other areas within Lira that Otyeny was collecting money in the name of safeguarding them from being convicted from the wetland.

He said the suspect will be charged with Obtaining Money by false pretense.

Among the Locals who testified to have given Otyeny money include, Okanga George who said he was defrauded of 310,000 shillings, and Robert Okur who paid a cash of 35,000 shillings and among others.
