In a bid to improve access to safe water in in Kole and Oyam districts, the Embassy of Japan is today handing over 13 deep wells constructed on its behalf by Christian Vision International.

The Ambassador of Japan to Uganda, His Excellency Kazauki Kameda is expected to officiate over the handover function at Kamdini Sub County headquarters in Oyam district.

The project for the improvement of access water in Kole and Oyam districts is part of the 770 million shillings the embassy earmarked to support Access to safe Water in Lango and Acholi regions.

A statement issued ahead of the handover said, the Japanese Government commitments in Uganda have successfully improved million's of people's lives through the construction of boreholes, classrooms, girls' and boys' dormitories, science laboratories, maternity wards and infectious diseases wards, operating theaters, and procurement of ambulances, school buses and trucks.

The concept of the project hinged on the premise that after the 20 years of war in northern Uganda, many people in the two districts suffer from water borne diseases because they are compelled to fetch unsafe drinking water from nearby springs.
