Flashlight On Missuse of Funds For PWD Activities in Northern Uganda

The Member of Parliament representing Persons With Disability for Northern Uganda Hon. William Nokrach has expressed his disappointments over the manner in which some district officials are mismanaging funds meant to facilitate the activities of the PWDs.

Without mentioning the affected districts, Nokrach said government always send money inform of a disability grant to every districts but end up being mismanaged by some individuals at the districts.

During an interview with our reporter on Wednesday, Nokrach pledged to start following up on how and where the funds have been mismanaged where after, appropriate legal steps shall be taken on those found guilty.

He said the grant used to be 30 million shillings per district but the government through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has since reduced it depending on the number of sub-counties that a district has which he said, should be properly utilised.

Disclosing his plan for a fact finding visit to begin soon with Alebtong District, Nokrach said he is currently lobbying the donors to support him in the construction of a disability centre in the District.

The concerns of MP Nokrach are shared with that of the female representative for PWDs in the district council of Alebtong Hon.Atim Grace Abalo who recently in an interview with our reporter said the whereabouts of over 10 million shillings which was meant for the purchase of learning materials for children with Disability is not yet known.
