Lira Blood Donation Drive Exceeded Expectations

Uganda blood bank in-collaboration with St Kizito old students association SKOPA has collected 685 units of blood during the one week blood donation drive that ended on Saturday at Lira Mayors garden.

Jude Patrick Olwa the area Manager of Lira blood collection Centre said that the blood donation drive was aimed at improving the health of the people in Lango more especially pregnant mothers and Children who at times suffered from anaemia.

According to Olwa they manage to collects more than what they expects and he hopes to help the 15 Hospitals in Lango including Lira regional Hospital that is running out of bllod.

He explained that currently most hospitals in Lango is faced with challenges of limited bloods which some times cause the lives of many people.

Patrick Olwa also applauded Community in Lango and some MPs like Jonathan Odur, Sylvia Akello and Hamson Obua for the hospitality they gave by supporting the move which will save the lives of many people

On his part Jerome Atine Fredrick the Chairperson St Kizito old students Association SKOPA said that they thought of organising blood donation drive in memory of one of their friend the late Loy Acomo who died last September 2016 due to lack of blood.

According to Patrick Olwa the area Manager Lira blood collection Centre they had a projection of collecting 500 units of blood but due to the willingness of the community to save lives they manage to collect 685 units which he said is a very good achievement.

Other organisation that supported blood donation drive were Radio WA, Unity FM, Voice of Lango, Radio Q, Hitch Uganda and Glo-ford Uganda.

Uganda blood donation is an entity empowered by government of Uganda to collects blood from members of the public to help the vulnerable people in Hospital across the Country.
